Academic Assignments

Reading

On academic days, read for 25 minutes. Options for reading include books, apps on iPad such as Epic and RAZ Kids, magazines, articles, recipes...almost anything! Students can read in their head or out loud. Listening to a story also counts!

After reading, choose an item from the Reading Choice Board to keep learning. Scroll down to the second page of the document for fun digital literacy resources. These can supplement your child's learning at any time.

Math

On academic days, complete the assigned DARE problem. Click here to view and

download all of the DARE problems. Students can choose to join a live Zoom meeting at 11:00 to work with peers and Mrs. Groleau, choose a pre-recorded DARE lesson with Mrs. Groleau by going to the "Teacher Tutorials (Math)" page of this website, or work independently. Click here to view all of the DARE problem answer keys.

Then, select an item from the Math Choice Board to practice your number sense.

As a closing activity, do some fluency practice for 5-10 minutes. Choose between Reflex, IXL, or any other math app on your iPad. Click here to play a fun math puzzle we did together during a homeroom Zoom meeting. The website is setgame.com. Click on the Daily Set Puzzle to play.

Writing

On academic days, write for 25 minutes. Students can choose to write anything, including stories, teaching books, poems, or letters. Students should follow their writing process, which is: Plan, Write, Edit/Revise, and Share. Click here for a chart of the writing process. For the share, students can read their writing to a family member, a pet, or a stuffed animal!

After writing, choose an item from the Writing Choice Board to extend the learning.

Teacher tutorials at this time will focus on small-moment stories, which students have already practiced extensively in second grade.

Students can write on any kind of paper that is available at home. If you have access to a printer, here are writing paper choices: Narrative Stories and Informational Teaching Books, Letters, and Poetry.

Social Studies/Science

On academic days, students should complete a day of assignments on the Scholastic Learn at Home website. Move through the lessons at your own pace!

Learning Tips

Movement Breaks

Depending on personality, your child may require frequent movement breaks throughout the day. These are encouraged! Ideas: jumping jacks, stretches, yoga poses, short walks, wall push-ups. A great resource for movement breaks is Go Noodle.

Reflection

Time to reflect on learning is essential. By simply asking your child what he/she did for writing today, you are providing time for the learning to sink in. Initiate these types of conversations and encourage your learner to express his/her understanding!
